Ten Outstanding Views and Viewpoints

Fabulous vistas - from the far reaching view seen atop Lincoln Cathedral's tower to the beauty of the Lincolnshire Wolds.

The Observatory Tower, Lincoln Castle

This ancient tower witnessed bloody medieval battles and Civil War sieges in centuries gone by. Its turret was added in the early 19th century , built by convict labour. The Observatory Tower, with its lofty views over the city, came into defensive use again as a Second World War lookout post. Volunteers from the Lincoln civil defence watched out for enemy action on fire watch duty.  Today the views are peaceful ones of magnificent Lincoln Cathedral, and in the far distance on a clear day  the towers of Tattershall Castle, and Boston Stump  - an  amazing 34 miles away.
