Queen Victoria's granddaughter Princess Marie Louise was a frequent visitor to the genteel Edwardian spa resort.

The princess visited Woodhall Spa to stay with her close friend Lady Weigall who owned Petwood House. During her visits, Lady Weigall and her husband Sir Archibald entertained the princess at the small picture house which they had converted from a concert pavilion. Guests of the Weigalls, and those who could afford it , sat in the expensive seats - a row of deckchairs - at the front. There were cheaper bench seats at the back.

Today, Petwood House is a comfortable hotel. The delightful Kinema in the Woods is furnished with more comfortable seating and shows the latest Hollywood blockbusters.
