A classic TV serial that still attracts location hunters.

The handsome Georgian town of Stamford, which also starred in Pride and Prejudice, still attracts fans of the earlier classic TV serial of George Elliot's famous novel. False porticos, pillars and other props were created by the BBCs set builders, to transform the town's Assembly Rooms into the White Hart Inn. And double yellow lines, parking signs and letterboxes were covered up or disguised to remove clues of 20th century life.

Eagle-eyed viewers will have spotted the elegant interiors of Grimsthorpe Castle, near Bourne - a perfect fit as the Lydgate family's Northumberland  seat, Quallingham.
